Visualisations of 18.5MW turbines

The Blue Mackerel current project design and visualisations are based on 15-megawatt (MW) wind turbines.
As offshore wind technology continues to evolve, larger-capacity turbines may become available in the future. Therefore, we have also prepared visualisations using 18.5MW turbine technology and layout that would include higher turbines and longer blades but less turbines would be required.
This scenario presents a different visual outcome, showing how the wind farm could appear from selected key locations, if this technology was to be used. The modelling methods, including accurate locations, scale, and visual assessment methods, remain consistent with those used for our primary 15MW turbine visualisations.
What’s different?
The alternative wind farm design with 18.5MW turbine technology includes:
- A higher hub height (181m)
- A higher tip height (327m)
- A larger rotor diameter (292m)
- 56 Turbines (13 less than the proposed 15MW design)
- Two substations (same as 15MW design)

- Images at night will be prepared once we have advice on lighting requirements from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Air Services Australia, Department of Defence.
- The appearance of our visualisations may shift a little depending on the device you’re using, such as the size of your screen or its colour settings. They may also look different when printed. For the most accurate view, we recommend using a desktop monitor or exploring the viewpoints through our virtual reality (VR) set. If your community group would like a closer look using the VR set, please contact us and we’d be happy to arrange an in-person session.
